Lady Raider Volleyball 2019

Sub-State Runner Up

The Lady Raiders volleyball team started the season off on the right foot as we traveled to the Norwich tournament with the sweep of 5-0 for the first place trophy.  The team worked really hard putting everything together to beat Sunrise, Udall, Norwich, Caldwell, and South Barber.  We only went into three the first game against Sunrise.

We would then travel to the Dexter tournament where we would place second overall.  We played Flinthills putting us in the second place spot in our pool so we played Cedar Vale/Dexter to get back into the finals to once again meet the Flinthills Mustangs.  Although the girls played hard against them, we would fall short for the loss.

Our next tournament would be at Central Burden where we would play six games.  We again fell short to Flinthills in pool play but were able to beat Cunningham to advance to the finals.  Our first game would be against Attica but after taking the Wildcats to three, we just couldn’t quite finish with the win.  We played Oxford next and took home the third place plaque.  We went to work on some changes that we wanted to make before the league tournament so that we could try and beat the number one seed, Flinthills.

The Lady Raiders would travel to South Haven for the league tournament and go undefeated knowing we would meet the Mustangs in the final game.  We started off very slow and came back with a fight, but just fell short the first set.  We would then battle with them the next two and come out on top in the end as the League Champions.  Coach and I were so proud of them for the way they played all day.

Our record would stand at 28-8 going into Regionals.  We had a bye the first round so we matched up with Norwich and Udall.  We would head to Sub-State as the Regional Champs now with a record of 31-8.  We got the tough draw of being in with Olpe but first had to beat Burrton.  We had a slow first game trying to get all the nerves worked out but won the first set, and then going to work on the second with a score of 25-5.  Next would be Olpe for the Sub-State finals.  They came out strong hitting at us so we just couldn’t get our feet under us in time to pull off the win.  We battled back the second match but then with a few errors just couldn’t pull off the win.  We ended the year as Sub-State Runner-Up.

We are so proud of these girls and all of their team and individual accomplishments.  We will really miss our only Senior next year but should come back stronger and ready to take on all of the challenges.  Our team consisted of Senior-Lara Perrotti, Juniors-Destiny Baker, Aubreigh Haxton, Karrlea Hessman, Alexis Vineyard, Shelby Handlin, Sophomores-Alyssa Martin, Chelsea Coleman, Tori Sandoval, Freshmen-Brenna Booker, Abigail Harbin.

Thank you to everyone that came out and supported us this year.  Coach Poljansek and I had a great first year and are looking forward to many more.
