USD 359 to Honor Rick Nafziger and Gary Parks at the October 11, 2019 Home Football Game!

On October 11, 2019, USD 359 will be honoring Gary Parks and the late Rick Nafziger and their families. Come join us on this special night as we recognize Gary and Rick’s long-time service to Raider/Titan Athletics.  Amazingly, this year would have marked 50 years for Gary and Rick to serve together as scoreboard operator and announcer for the football program.

Their service, however, extends well beyond the football field. Prior to Rick’s recent passing, he was a member of the USD 359 School Board for 34 years.  In addition, he was a routine fixture at all Argonia athletic events.  He could always be seen at both home and away volleyball, basketball and football games.  If the Raiders were playing, Rick was there!  His presence will certainly be missed this year.

Likewise, even when Gary wasn’t volunteering his time running the clock and scoreboard for the football team, he could be seen cheering on the basketball and volleyball teams.  In fact, Gary operated the clock and scoreboard for home basketball games for a number of years.  Gary’s contributions to USD 359 athletics are only matched by his community service to the town of Argonia itself.

At the Titan’s home game on October 11, 2019, a special ceremony recognizing the above noted contributions will be conducted after the conclusion of the game.  USD 359 would like to offer a special invite to all former Titan/Raider players and coaches to help celebrate Gary and Rick’s 50 years of service.  We will have a booth set up at the east entrance for former and current players and students to sign their names and write a short note of thanks to Gary and Rick.  If you cannot make it to the game and you would like to express your gratitude to them, feel free to write a short note and mail it to the high school (addressed to Bob Almanza, Argonia High School, 202 East Allen, Argonia, KS  67004).  If you do mail a short note, please make sure to send it by Sept. 30, 2019.

This night will also be Argonia High School’s homecoming night, so we would love a big crowd to help honor these two special individuals and their families.  If anyone has questions or would like further information, please contact Bob Almanza, Argonia Athletic Director. He may be reached through email at ralmanza@argonia359.org or by phone 620-435-6611.   Hopefully, we will see everyone on October 11, 2019!
