Day at the State Capitol

While most teenagers might still be sleeping at 4:30 AM, four sophomores were ready for a road trip to the State Capitol in Topeka, KS on February 28th to Page for the House of Representatives. Training began around 8:30 AM for Griffin Brown, Hope Casner, Joshua Sandoval, and Taylor Schulte. While there, they not only met their sponsor, Representative Kansas House District 100Daniel Hawkins, but also Kansas State Senate District 32, Larry Alley. After pictures with both of these gentlemen in the governor's office, Senator Alley invited everyone to sit in on a special Senate Tax Committee session he was scheduled to hear and personally introduced each student to the committee members and audience.

Even though Page duties were unusually light for the House of Representatives that day, they enjoyed not only the tour of the beautiful interior of the Capitol, including the library with the glass floor, but also the exciting climb to the top of the dome where the stunning ‘fresh air’ scenery was truly welcomed! After a long day of work, the return trip’s conversations centered on recapping the wonderful memories they now had and then finally gave way to the much-needed nap each deserved!
