Are You Smarter Than a Raider?

by Kamry Pontious & Trevor Pierce

The Argonia Scholars Bowl team has 17 members of their team this year, the biggest team they’ve had yet under Coach Haxton! The team consists of Amber Webster, Amelia Kollmeyer, Aubreigh Haxton, Brant Cotta, Cassidy Boese, Catie Hammond, Chase Rhea, Creek Love, Gio Hernandez, Griffin Brown, Hope Casner, Leah Fitch, Madalynn Rhea, Moriah Carter, Sydney Boese, Taylor Schulte, and Tori Thornton.

They started their 2017 season at Caldwell High School November 2nd. The JV team went 0-3, while the varsity went 1-2. The team then traveled to Central Burden on November 9th. JV went 3-4 and varsity went 6-1, placing second. On November 14th, the team traveled to Sedan. The JV went 3-3 while varsity went 3-4. The team finished November with a meet at Flinthills on the 20th.  The JV went 1-3 and the varsity went 0-4.  The second half of the season begins at South Haven on December 4th, Udall on December 11th, Oxford on January 8th, and on January 22nd League will be held in Argonia.

When Mr. Haxton was asked how he thought the season has gone thus far he responded with, “I am very pleased with the way the kids are competing. Each of the past 4 years have seen improvement and I believe that we have a great chance at qualifying for the state scholars bowl meet in February.”  When asked what were his thoughts on having such a big team this year, Coach Haxton said, “It is very exciting knowing that this many kids have an interest in showing off what they have learned in school. I have a lot of options for both varsity and JV. I am amazed at how much each of them knows and it is so much fun seeing them get an answer correct. Kudos go out to all of the teachers who filled their minds with stuff they never thought they needed to know.” We hope to see the Scholars Bowl teams continue improving at each meet!
