UNAPPROVED MINUTES

November 13, 2017

 

Call to Order:  President Brian Fitch called the November 13, 2017, meeting to order at 7:01 pm with seven members present.  Those members were Rick Nafziger, Joe Allen, Brian Fitch, Shane Morrison, Sarah Vineyard, Dave Gaddie, and Scott Greenwood.  Also present were Superintendent Julie McPherron, Principal Aaron Dewlen and Clerk Sue Randall. 

 

Approve Agenda:  Rick Nafziger made a motion to approve the agenda.  Joe Allen seconded the motion.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Audience:  Jr Class Sponsor Jon Mead with junior students Amelia Kollmeyer and Moriah Carter.  The students asked the board for permission to hold the Jr./Sr. Prom at the Argonia Community Building.  The board gave their consent.

 

Consent Items:

 

Approval of Minutes:  Sarah Vineyard moved to approve the minutes of the meeting held on October 9, 2017.  Shane Morrison seconded the motion.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Approval of Warrants:  A motion was made by Shane Morrison to approve the warrants.  Dave Gaddie seconded the motion.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Reports: 

 

Mr. Dewlen gave the HS Principal report stating that there are no attendance issues at this time.  He reported on ACT scores and shared that the high school students will begin using an ACT Test Prep program to study and prepare for the tests.  The JH/HS had an 88% attendance rate at conferences and the student led conferences went very well with positive feedback from parents and students.

 

Jim Earl arrived at the meeting at 7:15 as an audience member.

 

Rick Nafziger gave his report of the October regular monthly meeting of the Sumner County Interlocal 619 held on October 3, 2017.

 

Joe Allen did not attend the SCKESC meeting.

 

Dr. McPherron gave the Supt/Elem. Principal report to the board.  She reported that the Parent-Teacher conferences in the elementary school had a 96% attendance rate with those parents unable to attend being contacted by the teachers.  She also shared that the staff energy conservation training with ESP went well.  With the December calendar being so full it was difficult to pick an evening for the Christmas music program.  It was decided to have it on Tuesday December 19th

 

Discussion and/or Appropriate Action:

 

High School Curriculum:  Scott Greenwood made a motion to approve the Healthy Relationships curriculum for the spring.  Sarah Vineyard seconded the motion.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

League Issues:    Discussion, no action taken.

 

Property Purchase:  Discussion, no action taken.

 

School Board Election Results:  Discussion, no action taken.

 

KASB Convention:    Scott Greenwood made a motion to appoint Brian Fitch as our delegate at the KASB Convention on December 3rd, with the rest of the board as alternates.  Joe Allen seconded the motion.  Motion carried 7-0.
