RAIDER READING TAKES FLIGHT

In our Raider Reading group we have been reading the novel The Beast In Ms. Rooney's Room by Patricia Reilly Giff.  Our main character, Richard "The Beast" Best is wanting his class to win the Banner for the Best Class in the school.  In order to be the Best Class the entire class has to follow rules and not get into any trouble.  Well.....Beast has to go to the nurses office after a fall in PE class and he just happens to find some paper sitting on the nurses desk.  There is a window right there and you guessed it...he made some paper airplanes to toss out of the window.  Beast gets caught by the nurse and therefore their class didn't win the banner for Best Class.

Our class would for sure win the banner for Best Class as they work hard each week in our Raider Reading Group.  We thought it would be fun to make some paper airplanes and see how far they would fly.  After a few trial runs, Brittany won with a throw of 25', with Lakelyn coming in second with a throw of 24' 9" and Lucas coming in third with his throw of 22'.  It was fun watching the students come up with ways they could make their plane fly farther.  We may have some engineers or pilots in our future.
