6th Grade Tie-Dye Experience

In the 6th Grade Reading Class, Mrs. Lawrence's group has been reading the novel Schooled by Gordon Korman.  In this novel the main character, Capricorn Anderson, has never watched television, never tasted a pizza and never lived outside of his farm commune on which he has been raised by his grandmother Rain.  But when Rain falls out of a tree while picking plums and has to stay in the hospital, Cap is forced to move in with a guidance counselor and her cranky teen daughter, and attend school for the very first time.  Right from the beginning, Cap's weirdness makes him a moving target at Claverage Middle School (dubbed C Average School by the students).  He has long, ungroomed hair; wears tie-dyed tshirts; and practices tai-chi out on the school lawn. The age old tradition at Claverage Middle School is to nominate the biggest nerd for class president - and you guessed it - Cap wins. Will Cap be a great president?  Check out Schooled and find out?

We thought it would be great fun to tie-dye our own shirts.  None of the students had ever done this before and it had been quite a long time since Ms. Adams or I had either, so it was a great learning experience for us all.  As you can see, everyone did a T-rrific job on their shirts.  Take a look at our slideshow! 6th grade Tie-Dye
