Reading Students Take Action to Make a Difference in Their Community

April was Autism Awareness month and Mrs. Pipkin’s 7th & 8th grade students not only spent time learning more about autism but also how to support, accept, and appreciate everyone’s distinct abilities. As a result of this newly heightened perspective, students were able to be involved with a unique community service project by ‘adopting’ a preschool classroom of students, ranging from 3-5 years of age, and creating Weighted Lap Blankets for them.

Collaborating in groups, students created and customized each child’s blanket following the specifications outlined in the directions. On Monday, May 13th, the blankets were delivered in person and together everyone was able to enjoy the preschool activities: singing, dancing, toys, puppets, and Legos!

We would like to thank Argonia School District for their support of this worthwhile and enjoyable service project!
