ACT and ACT WorkKeys

Sophomores and Juniors will be taking the ACT test on February 20th. It is free for all sophomores and juniors. Any senior that has never taken the test will be able to take the test as well.  The ACT is a standardized test that measures a student's skills in five core areas: English, math, reading, science, and writing (optional). Students in grades 11 and 12 take the ACT so that they can submit their scores to colleges as part of the college application process.

Juniors and Seniors will be taking the Workkeys test on February 21. The ACT WorkKeys is a skills assessment test for those who are interested in or are currently working for employers that place an emphasis on the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), which is the credential achieved by those who successfully complete the exam.

Both of these will benefit our students and we are excited to be able to offer them!

Why take the ACT?

1. Colleges Want to See ACT Scores

The most obvious reason to take the ACT is to get into college. The higher your score, the higher the likelihood that a selective college will let you in. Every college and university in the USA accepts ACT scores, and most don’t even let you apply without submitting a standardized test score like the ACT or SAT.

2. You Can Get Scholarships for High ACT Scores

Many colleges and private organizations offer scholarship money for high ACT scores. The higher your score, the higher the likelihood that you could end up with most—if not all—your tuition paid for, something every college-bound high schooler dreams about.

In addition to being a college admissions exam, the ACT includes a profile and education/career planning section to help students plan for life after high school. Students will receive personalized career information and develop a comprehensive profile that tells colleges about their work in high school and future plans. Students can also see their strengths and weaknesses in the subject areas tested to help direct their future education.

What is ACT WorkKeys?

The WorkKeys system from ACT is being used in high schools across your state and throughout the country to help students understand how they can improve their skills for better-paying jobs. WorkKeys scores help employers take the guesswork out of determining whether individuals are qualified for positions in their organizations.

The WorkKeys system measures skills such as reading, math, listening, locating information, and teamwork. These are skills that employers feel are critical to job success. WorkKeys test results help students understand how they can improve their skills for better-paying jobs. Students who take the WorkKeys tests have a clear way to demonstrate their abilities to future employers.

All students are already signed up to take both Assessments.  Seniors that want to sign up for the ACT that have already taken the assessment need to do so by January 28, 2019 and pay $45.00 in the high school office.
