NHS Students Volunteer at Lord's Diner

On January 22nd, 12 NHS students traveled to Wichita to help prepare food for the Lord's Diner.  The students spent time prepping meat for dinner, making vegetables, mashed potatoes, and vegetable soup, enough for 2,500 people that the diner will serve in a night.  They also helped organize the freezer, food trucks, and other food storage areas along with cleaning the kitchen once all the food was prepped. Cora Vineyard stated that she did not know that they served more than 2,000 people in different areas of Wichita with food trucks and that it takes more than 75 volunteers a day to prep and serve.

The Diner's singular mission is to serve a nutritious meal with dignity and respect to anyone who is hungry.

The Lord’s Diner serves an evening meal 365 days a year. A small paid staff, assisted by more than 6,000 volunteers representing many faiths and denominations prepare and serve a hot, nutritious meal in a spirit of compassion, respect and loving service. The Lord’s Diner is currently serving an average of 2,500 meals nightly at two dining facilities (one in downtown Wichita, and one in south Wichita) and three food trucks (one in northwest Wichita, one in southeast Wichita, and one in northeast Wichita) and an average of 150 meals nightly at a dining facility in Pittsburg, to any guest who needs a nutritious meal - 60 percent of which are families.
