KAY Club-October Projects

On October 16th, the twenty-one members of Argonia High School’s K.A.Y. (Kansas Association for Youth) Club volunteered part of their afternoon to helping the 1st and 2nd graders of Argonia Elementary. KAY Club is an organization available to freshmen through seniors, and our main focus is to build character through service and leadership. We do many school, community, nation, and world service projects throughout the year. This years members are Baylee Booker, Ross Carter, Hope Casner, Chelsea Coleman, Brant Cotta, Kaden Dickerson, Shelby Handlin, Aubreigh Haxton, Zach Haxton, Karrlea Hessman, Emma Huntley, Kaylee Lacey, Cydney Larson, Alyssa Martin, Allie McCurley, Noah Phillips, Lucas Schulte, Taylor Schulte, Alexis Vineyard, Cora Vineyard, and Amber Webster.

As a club in Area 6, our area project was “Giving Ourselves to a Cause”. We decided to focus on academic achievement and enrichment of our elementary students. Every Tuesday, the 1st and 2nd graders have an hour dedicated to an activity called “Makerspace”. This allows the students to use hands-on tools to explore their interests and develop their creative skills. In this session, the kids were competing in teams to see who could build the tallest balloon tower after reading the book “Balloon Farm”. The KAY members were split into teams of 2 with about 3 kids per group. Everyone had a blast competing against one another! Cora and Shelby’s group ended up being the winning team!

To finish out the month of October, KAY Club hosted a Trunk-or-Treat for K-5 students. The members lined up their vehicles in the parking lot and dressed out in their best costumes. The elementary kids came over during their party time on Halloween to get candy and other treats to take home. Stay tuned for more KAY projects throughout the year!
