EARTH DAY FIELD TRIP

Our celebration of Earth Day continued as students went down to the Argonia River Park to pick up trash.  It was a beautiful day to celebrate!  We were so happy to see that there wasn't a lot of trash.  When we started this tradition 20 years ago, our goal was to make people aware of how important it is to take care of our Earth.

After picking up trash, students learned some amazing facts:

*the average person tosses out about 4 pounds of garbage per day

*it takes 450 years for a plastic bottle to break down

*recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to watch three hours of tv

*enough plastic bottles are thrown away each year to circle the earth four times

*more than 100 billion pieces of junk mail are delivered in the United States per year

We Love Our Earth and each student pledged to take care of it the best that they could!
