Argonia Eighth Grade goes to the Theater.

On October 10th, Mr. Miller's and Mrs. Pipkin's 8th grade class joined nearly a thousand other students to watch a professional live theater production of Encore!!, a variety of literary works, performed by The Chamber Theater Production Company. While there, students enjoyed watching the short stories they've been reading in class literally 'come to life' within the vintage setting of The Orpheum Theater located in Wichita, Kansas. The delightful vignettes The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Monkey’s Paw, The Necklace, & The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County were taken not only from a diverse range of genres but also well-known authors that included Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving, W.W. Jacobs, Guy de Maupassant and Mark Twain.

In addition, students had been working with the skill of analyzing characters in their reading class and had just completed the "Stopping at Starbucks" book project that challenged students to match a specific character's traits to a coordinating beverage and food item at Starbucks based on the descriptions given from the menu with supporting evidence! As soon as the field trip was confirmed, students immediately connected the theater opportunity to an actual 'Stopping at Starbucks' opportunity for themselves! Based on the smiles and satisfied comments that were heard while they enjoyed their own food and beverage items, the Starbucks menu descriptions didn't fail to disappoint their long-awaited expectations.
