'Uranium' for the Win
Another Spelling Bee has been hosted at Argonia High School, this year by Mrs. Paxson, Mrs. Pipkin, and Mr. Miller. There were 17 students that participated in the 2017 Spelling Bee. Those students were 8th graders: Chelsea Coleman, Seth Drouhard, Jadyn Gallardo, Alyssa Martin, and Luke Schulte; 7th graders: Abigail Harbin, Aidan Kollmeyer, Brooke Love, Jed Phillips, and Wesley Weishaar; 6th graders: Judith Davila, Destiny Davis, Maya Jones, Brenten Kelley, Heidi McCurley, Dalton Morrison, and Taylor Viohl.
The Spelling Bee started out with a practice round of everyday words. Then, the first round began! In the first round, 5 students were eliminated. In the second, third, fourth, and fifth rounds, a total of 9 students were eliminated.
The top 3 left were Jadyn Gallardo, Alyssa Martin, and Destiny Davis. As rounds progressed, so did the difficulty of the words. Avian, heredity, epithets, and petrifying are just a few examples of many words the contestants had to spell. After 31 rounds of Jadyn Gallardo and Alyssa Martin battling it out, Jadyn had won with the word ‘Uranium.’ Both girls will attended the County Spelling Bee on Wednesday, October 11th at 9:30am at the Wellington Middle School in Wellington. Congratulations to Jadyn and Alyssa.
