Raiders Conclude Season with Tough Loss at Sub-State . . . Three Players Named to All-League Team

The Argonia Raiders Boys Basketball team concluded their season by losing to Ashland at the Caldwell Sub-State semi-finals.  After earning a second seed in the 1A Div. II Sub-State, the Raiders received a bye and did not have to play in the quarterfinals.    Ashland, the third seed in the tournament, had beat Cunningham to advance to the semi-finals.

The Raiders played one of their best games of the season; unfortunately, it was not enough.  The Raiders actually led the entire game, but with two minutes remaining, Ashland went on a run.  Ashland made a big three pointer and an old fashioned three point play during the run to cut and take the lead.   The Raiders ended up losing 45-39.

The Raiders were led in scoring by Kolten Koerner, who tossed in 12 points.  Evan Dolley contributed 10 points, while Trevor Pierce chipped in 7 points.

The Raiders concluded  this season with a record of 15-7, finishing as Runner-Up in the SCBL.  This year’s team had the best record of any AHS boy’s team since 2009.  As their coach, I was very proud of how hard this team worked.  I thought we made tremendous progress from the start of the season to the end.    And probably more important, this team was extremely enjoyable to coach and is made up of quality young men.

The team will unfortunately have to say good bye to three seniors:  Evan Dolley, Jason Hess and Kolten Koerner.  Kolten, a four year letterman, finished his career at AHS in fine fashion, earning First Team All-League and All-State Honorable Mention.  Evan Dolley also earned post season honors, as he received Honorable Mention All-League.  The Raiders look forward to next year, as they return 3 starters,  including Seth Hemberger, who was named Second Team All-League and also received All-State Honorable Mention.

Finally, the Raiders would like to thank all the fans and parents who supported the Raiders this year.
