"FALL" into Reading!

The leaves are all starting to turn their beautiful colors and all of us in
Title One are also starting to turn into wonderful readers and great
mathematicians.  Some of us are just beginning to read, where others are
improving their lexiles and moving onto chapter books.  What an exciting
time!

We work really hard on our reading strategies and we would like to share
some of them with you.
                         10 Steps To Reading Success
"The Report of the Commission on Reading"
    1.  Even the youngest children benefit from the sounds of your voice.
Start reading to your child at birth.
    2.  Don't let a day go by without reading to your child.
    3.  The more animated you are, the more your child will follow the
story.  Be silly.  Use an accent.  It's show time!
    4.  Don't rush. It takes time for a young child to settle into a story.
    5.  Don't be afraid to veer away from the text.  Improvise!
    6.  Satisfy your child's curiosity!  Take questions - at all times and
at any time.
    7.  Never stop reading aloud.  Even when your child has mastered
reading on his/her own, she still benefits from more complex stories and the
sound of your voice.
    8.  Make sure you make reading enjoyable!  Make it a special time with
your child.
    9.  Get comfortable!  Sit in your favorite chair, or cozy up on the
couch.
   10.  Own lots of books!  A child should have his or her own library.

Remember that each time you open a book and read to your child, you're
making magic happen.  A child who develops an early love of reading is a
child who is bound to succeed.  Reading is the foundation of all good
learning.

So maybe tonight would be a great night to grab one of your favorite books
and spend some family time reading  Have a wonderful Fall!
