Specific College/Vocational Scholarship Information

 

KSU-Acacia Fraternity Scholarships- 1 $1,000 and 2 $500.00 scholarships for incoming male freshmen.  Please see counselor for application if interested. Deadline is January 23, 2012.

 

KSU- Phi Kappa Theta Man of Faith Scholarship.  1 $1,000 and 2 $500.00 scholarships for male incoming freshmen.  Please see counselor for application or go to www.ksu.edu/phikap/manoffaith.htm for more information.

 

KSU:  Man of Faith Scholarship by Phi Kappa Theta-2 $1,000.00 avail. for  incoming male freshman at KSU who recognize faith and academics as the foundation of the fraternity.  See counselor for application or go to www.ksu.edu/phikap/manoffaith.htm for more information.

 

Washburn University Leadership Institute-1/9/12-Applications are due.  See counselor if interested in attending Washburn University. 

 

 

Local Scholarship Information:  I highly recommend applying for these as they are local (county or area specific).

 

KanOkla Networks Scholarship (For those who have KanOkla Telephone Service-must be a land line phone) is offering 8 $1,000.00 scholarships, 4 in KS and 4 in OK.  2 Academic Scholarships, 1 Vocational, and 1 is for all eligible applicants and is randomly drawn.  See counselor for application if you are a member.  The deadline is April 1, 2012.

 

PRIMO (Public Relations Independent Marketing Organization) is offering 5 scholarships for $500.00.  Preference will be to those students majoring in Marketing, Public Relations, or any telecommunications fields.  KanOkla is an active member of PRIMO and scholarships must be turned in to the KanOkla Telephone Association Office in Caldwell.  Applications are due by March 15, 2012. 

 

FRS (Foundation for Rural Service) Scholarship- Parent or legal guardian must live within a NTCA:  National Telecommunications Cooperative Association such as KanOkla service area.   30 $2,500.00 scholarships available.  19 $2,000.00 scholarships available and the sponsoring organization (KanOkla) will add $500.00 making a total of $2500.00.  Go to www.frs.org for more information.  May pick up an application from school counselor.   Please note that the manager or board president of the sponsoring company must sign.  Must mail application of the FRS in Virginia.  Please see application for address.    Deadline March 1, 2012.

 

Cargill Community Scholarship Program- $1,000 scholarships to 350 high-school seniors in the U.S. where Cargill has a business present. Students are selected based on academic achievement and leadership in extracurricular and civic activities. Go to www.cargill.com, keyword: scholarship and at www.ffa.org. Applications must be submitted by February 15, 2012.

 

Ellis Foundation- Must attend one of the colleges in this website www.TheEllisFoundation.org. Interview candidate through video conferencing. Provides up to $1,000 a semester for up to eight consecutive semesters. Minimum Requirements: Financial need, a GPA of 3.0 and an ACT score of 20.

 

These are repeated scholarships:  Please fill these out!!!

(The Chase & Loofburrow are local county scholarships and I would recommend that you fill them out if you qualify).  

The Loofbourrow Educational Trust Scholarship (Same form as Chase Scholarship).   Sumner County Students only.  If you qualify for the **Chase Scholarship listed below, you need not fill out the form again,  but copy it.   The amount will be determined later, but previously was $1,000.00  and is not based on same requirements as the Chase .  Deadline on or before January 6, 2012 to the Wellington HS Guidance Office or  you may turn in to Mrs. Bacon by TUESDAY, JANUARY 3RD I’ll make a trip to turn them in.   (Please turn in to counselor by the end of this day).

 

(All students can do the Loofbourrow and only top 10% can do the Chase.  You may use the same application and photocopy it).

**Mr. & Mrs. A.L. Chase Scholarship-Top 20% ACT Score/Top 10% of Class-Sumner County Bar Assoc. will select individual/Sumner County Seniors Only-$1,000 for 1 year only non-renewable-Deadline on or before January 6, 2012 to the Wellington HS Guidance Office or  you may turn in to Mrs. Bacon by MONDAY, JANUARY 3RD I’ll make a trip to turn them in.   (Please turn in to  counselor by the end of this day).

New instructions for Chase & Loofburrow Scholarship:

Instructions to Access Local Scholarship

Go to www.usd353.comwebsite

  1. On the top left side – select the District Home White Tab. Then on right side in red, select schools and pull down to Wellington High School. Once you have selected WHS – go back over to the left side in the red, select departments and them on the right side in white – selected Counselors.
  2. You will see there are Scholarship Document 1 (instruction pages – you do not need to print this when you turn in your completed application), Scholarship Document 2, Scholarship Document 3. You will need to open these individually and save them into your word documents. You will now be able to work on the application and keep saving the documents until you have completed the application. There are a few yes and no questions, please just put an X on the appropriate line.
  3. Once you have completed the application, please print documents 2 (scholarship application cover sheet) and 3 (actual application) and take the completed application to your high school counselor at your school by instruction sheet, 3:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7.
  4. REMEMBER TO SIGN YOUR APPLICATION AND TO INCLUDE A PICTURE.

 

Other Scholarships

Playing With A Purpose Award/2011-12 SQ PWP Scholarship Program- $12,700 available for Christian student athletes.  Go to www.playingwithpurpose.org or call 317-270-9495.  Deadline is March 1, 2012.

 

Vocational Education Scholarship Program/KS Board of Regents-Must submit application for the test to be given at 17 sites on in March 5, 2012.  (Deadline February 3, 2012).   Our closest location is Wichita.  You may apply online at www.kansasregents.org/financial_aid/awards.html .  You may also call or e-mail a request for a copy at 785-296-3518 or www.kansasregents.org .  You must take the test to be considered for the state vocational scholarship.    The fee is $15.00 for the test.  Please see the counselor for more details.

Eligible students must have a 3.25 GPA or receive a score above the 75th percentile on an admissions test. 

 

2012 Sam Walton Community Scholarship will be available on-line from November 1, 2011 through January 31, 2012.  More information, printable online instructions, and the link to apply for these and other Wal-Mart Foundation programs are found at www.walmartfoundation.org.  The access code (SWCS) must be used to access this application process.  Please also check the same web address for scholarship opportunities if associates and children of associates of a Wal-Mart store.  The deadline is January 31, 2012..

 

Kansas Teaching Profession Scholarships -$4,000 per year (for a total of $16,000).  Eligible students must have a 3.25 GPA or receive a score above the 75th percentile on an admissions test.  TEACH Grant recipients must teach in high need schools and high need fields for a minimum of four years within the eight years after finishing the program.  The following shortage fields are targeted to TEACH Grants:  mathematics, science, foreign language, special education, bilingual education, reading specialists, and other documented high need fields.   It is expected that the Department of Education will issue regulations for implementation.  There are a lot of hoops to jump through to get this grant.  You must have been a Kansas Scholars Curriculum Completer or followed the Kansas State Rigorous Curriculum (same as other, except 1 less foreign language and science variance).  Some colleges do not allow the grant for Freshmen or Sophomores, but keep this in mind for later if you are going into an education.

 

 

Kansas Masonic Foundation Education Department-  Scholarships available.  Must be in the loan program for two years, remain a full-time students and maintain a 3.5 or higher.  May go to www.kmfonline.org for more information.

Burger King Scholars Program- 700 $1,000 Scholarships available- to apply go to http://www.haveityourwayfoundation.org/bksp_scholarship_eligibility.html for application details the application online.  Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA, work at least 15 hours a week, 40 weeks per year, be actively involved in community service activities, demonstrate financial need, and plan to enroll in a 2 or 4 year college, vo-tech program in the fall.  Deadline is February 1, 2012.

 

National Annual CO-OP Scholarship Program- NCCE Partner Colleges- 200 $6,000 scholarships (renewable)  Go to www.co-op.edu for application and details.  Specific college listing as well.   Must have 3.5 GPA, application and essay.   Deadline is February 15, 2011.   

 

KFC Colonel’s Scholars-$5,000 per year for tuition, fees, books, & room and board, up to $20,000 total .  Must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree, minimum of 2.75 GPA, Graduate in 09, US Citizen and enroll in a public, in state college or university. Go to www.kfcscholars.org for online application, which is available from December 1, 2011 to February 8, 2012.    

 

 

Many, if not most scholarships are available online.  Many scholarships don’t have paper copies anymore, but must submit online applications.  Students can use the Internet at school on their own time to look up information.  Students must make arrangements for permission to use the computer lab or library.
