Junior High Rocket Launch

Argonia 2011 Junior High Rocket Launch

This year’s rocket launch was another great success.  We had a great turnout on 9/26/11, 5:30 PM at the Argonia Airport with perfect weather.  I first want to thank everyone who helped out to make this an outstanding event.  A special thank you goes to Mr. Riebel for keeping record of all the rocket elevations with his altimeter.  Everyone knows of the movie Top gun with Tom Cruise, and using a line from that movie, “the best of the best” this describes my students, their parents, family members and friends who helped out with the rocket launch.

My environmental science students did a great job cooking and setting up for the event; this includes Matt Harsh, Anthony Werner, Patrick Mbahi and Cody Johnson.  This year I have come up with a new award called the Rocket Dr. of the year.  I am always encouraging the students to be helpful to others.  The Rocket Dr. has to be helpful, encouraging, knowledgeable, and willing to help any student who needs assistance.  The 2011 Rocket Dr. of the year goes to Garett Hagar.  Congratulations Garett!!!  Now for the results of the rocket ballots, with 16 votes for the rocket everyone thought would fly the highest was Marlee Gaddie, with 35 votes for best decorated rocket was Michael Norris, with 27 votes for the rocket with a failed parachute Courtney Larson and her parachute did open up, with 13 votes for the best at following instructions to make the rocket – Marlee Gaddie.  The rocket that actually launched the highest was Haley Garcia at 123 meters. Enjoy the photos and thank you all for your active participation.
