PTO Meeting Minutes

Co-Chair Kylie Phillips called the meeting to order and gave the Treasurer’s Report.  We have $7833.66 in checking with one outstanding check for the supplies we bought for the school of $3292.00.  Julie Dolley will check to see why the check hasn’t come through the bank yet.  This leaves $4551.66 left in checking.  The Secret Santa Shop made $740.00, which almost quadrupled our profit from the year before.

Sarah Vineyard gave the Campbell’s Soup Label update.  We are at 13100 labels and she has a large sack to still cut and send in.

Robyn Haxton gave the Valentine’s Bingo update.  She has had plenty of prizes come in and still more to receive based on the forms filled out by parents.  She will get with parents to volunteer to assist with the prize tables.  Also, she suggested that we mark the students hands when they get a prize to ensure that all students bingo twice.  The Valentine’s Bingo is scheduled for 2:45-3:00.  Last year, the bingo was almost 45 minutes and the teacher’s felt like it was too long.  Parents will be notified that their portion of the party will start at 3:00 p.m.  It was also suggested that we get some cans of pop, candy bars, and chips donated as those went over well last year.

Discussion was held regarding the fundraiser for next year.  Some suggestions included:  Sally Foster Gift Wrap, Home and Garden Candles and Food Mixes, Spirit Cards/Books with discounts to local stores, and Quilt Raffles.  Kylie asked that everyone look at some fundraisers and bring the information back to the next meeting.

Julie Dolley went over a budget update on her meeting in Topeka on Thursday.  There will not be any field trips for the remaining year, so she asked if PTO would be willing to pay for the elementary students trips this year.  It was agreed that PTO would pay for transportation to the Sedgwick County Zoo for Pre-K and K, with parents being asked to pay for admission tickets like last year.  We would pay for the 1st and 2nd grade to go to the Circus with admission tickets being donated from the Shriner’s.  We would be willing to pay for transportation for the 3rd and 4th grade to go somewhere or provide snacks if they want to stay local.  Also, we will pay for transportation for the 5th grade to go to the Dare camp in Wellington.

Another item that was discussed was providing snacks during Assessment time.  Last year the snacks cost around $334.00.  It was decided that we would ask parents of the class to donate these items with the PTO filling in as needed.

The final item that was discussed was the need for parents, teachers, and staff to write letters to the State requesting that Education be spared from any additional cuts.  Julie will also put in the newsletter that these letters are greatly needed with some suggestions on topics.

The next PTO meeting will be February 22nd.
