Argonia Indians Basketball

Jr. High Boys Continue to Improve

by Coach Greenwood

January 18, 2010

The 2009-2010 Indian basketball season is well underway with the varsity boys’ record standing at 1-6.  The boys' lone win came against South Haven on December 17 in which they defeated the Cardinals 25 – 21.  Argonia was led in scoring that game by sixth grader Alec McDaniel who had 11 points.  Dalton Good, Dillon Lowe, and Matt Harsh each contributed 4 points and Michael Norris and Aaron Harsh each added a point apiece.  Two of Argonia’s losses came in close games, losing to Oxford at home 20 – 17; and Central Burden at home 28 – 27.  Argonia is led in scoring by Alec McDaniel who averages 6 ppg, Dillon Lowe is second in scoring averaging 3.7 ppg, and Matt Harsh averages 3.6 ppg.

The boys have been working hard and improving all year long in many ways that aren’t reflected by their record.  Having just two 8th graders has caused many of the younger players to be thrust into the varsity game and they have responded admirably, giving us excitement for the future.  Another reason for excitement is the JV boys who are 4 – 3 on the year.  The junior varsity team consists of eight sixth graders and one seventh grader who all are working very hard each day in practice and who all continue to get better each game.  The JV is also led in scoring by Alec McDaniel who averages just over 4 ppg, second is Wyatt Botkin who averages 3 ppg, and Aaron Harsh averages 2.5 ppg.

The team’s two eighth graders are Dillon Lowe and Matt Harsh, the two seventh graders are Austin Tracy and Jerry Swart, and the eight sixth graders are Dalton Good, Garett Hagar, Alec McDaniel, Gus Drouhard, Evan Dolley, Michael Norris, Aaron Harsh, and Wyatt Botkin.  The Indians have three games remaining on the year which will be at Udall, at South Haven, and finishing up at Argonia against Wichita Home School on February 1.  We do appreciate all of your continuing support and ask that you do continue to come out and support the boys.
