Minutes
January 11, 2010
The meeting was called to order by President Rick Nafziger at 7:00 p.m. with four members present. Those members present were Rick Nafziger, Sarah Vineyard, Randy Simon, and Joe Allen. Also present were Parents as Teacher Representatives Sharon Hooker and Crystal Smith, Patron Jeff Tracy, High School Principal Travis Riebel, Elementary Principal Dennis Murray, Superintendent Julie Dolley, and Clerk Linda White.
Robert Pike, Scott Greenwood, and Ron Work were absent.
Agenda:A motion was made by Joe Allen, seconded by Sarah Vineyard to approve the agenda as amended. Motion carried 4-0.
Scott Greenwood arrived at 7:02 p.m.
Parents as Teachers Presentation: Sharon Hooker gave a fifteen minute presentation on the Parents as Teachers Program.
Sharon Hooker and Crystal Smith left at 7:23 p.m.
Audience: Patron Jeff Tracy was in attendance.
Consent Items
Approval of Minutes of Previous Mtg.-Dec. 14, 2009: Motion by Randy Simon, seconded by Rick Nafziger to approve the minutes as presented. Motion carried 5-0.
Ron Work arrived 7:25 p.m.
Approval of Warrants: Motion by Scott Greenwood and seconded by Sarah Vineyard to pay the warrants as presented. Motion carried 6-0.
Reports
Elementary Principal: Dennis Murray advised the board of the NWEA Testing in the K-2 classes, the absences due to illness, and the all day teacher in-service to be held on January 18th.
HS Principal: Travis Riebel advised the board of SCBL League signs hung in the gym, the track record board being updated, the increase in the A and B Honor Roll students and the District Exemplary Awards, fifty-two students with eighty-five awards.
Sumner County Interlocal 619: Rick Nafziger gave the 619 report held in Wellington December 21st.
SCKESC: Joe Allen gave a report of the meeting held in Clearwater on January 6th.
Superintendent: Dr. Dolley informed the board of a possible Capitol Visit Date, the Board Retreat to be held on Saturday January 16th, the KASB Webinar to be held at 6:30 p.m. January 13th, and the Exemplary Award Ceremony to be held Friday January 15th during half-time of the girl’s game.
Discussion and/or Appropriate Action
Fundraising Request: Motion by Scott Greenwood, seconded by Joe Allen to approve the Senior Class Fundraising Request with the stipulations as discussed. Motion carried 6-0
Budget: Motion by Scott Greenwood, seconded by Randy Simon to end the current school year on May 6th, pending snow days, with teachers remaining under contract through May 21st. Motion carried 6-0. A motion was made by Rick Nafziger, seconded by Sarah Vineyard to approve additional cuts to the 2010 budget as discussed. Motion carried 6-0.
Schedule for remainder of 09-10 school year: Motion by Sarah Vineyard and seconded by Scott Greenwood to approve activity changes to school calendar as discussed.
Jeff Tracy left the meeting at 9:55 p.m.
Long Range Staff Development Plan: Motion by Joe Allen, seconded by Randy Simon to approve the lone range plan of Jon Mages as discussed. Motion carried 6-0.
Classified Resignation: Motion by Rick Nafziger, seconded by Ron Work to accept the resignation of Laura Schnelle with thanks for her service. Motion carried 6-0.
Certified Retirement/Resignations: Motion by Scott Greenwood, seconded by Ron Work to accept the resignation and retirement of Dennis Murray and thank him for his many years of service as an administrator and teacher. Motion carried 6-0.
Motion by Ron Work and seconded by Joe Allen to accept the resignation of Joan Hemberger with thanks for her years of dedicated service. Motion carried 6-0.
Travis Riebel and Dennis Murray left the meeting at 10:05 p.m.
Superintendent Evaluation: Motion by Joe Allen, seconded by Rick Nafziger to enter executive session for twenty minutes at 10:10 p.m. to do the Superintendent Evaluation. Motion carried 6-0. The board returned to regular session at 10:30 p.m.
Adjournment: Motion by Ron Work, seconded by Scott Greenwood to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 p.m. Motion carried 6-0.
