Junior Varsity Scholar’s Bowl Team Wins Second Metal

High School Scholar's Bowl

January 14, 2010

Argonia’s junior varsity scholar’s bowl team won second place metals in competition at Central (Burden) on Monday.  Last month they received a third-place metal at South Haven.

I am very proud of our younger team this year.  Everyone on the JV team has actively participated in scholar’s bowl competition for the past two years.  I am hoping these students will be able to represent our school in the coming years.

Junior varsity teams include freshmen and sophomore students, while varsity teams are juniors and seniors.  Five members participate in each round of sixteen questions.  Categories include language arts, social science, math, science, fine arts, sports, foreign language and year in review.

Our varsity team has been struggling again this year to get enough members together for a team. Most upperclassmen participate in other school activities with scheduling conflicts that prevent them from joining our team.

We will be participating in two more meets before our season ends this month. We hope to take two teams to Oxford on January 25th, and then Argonia will be hosting our league competition on January 28th.

Junior varsity members include Cody Johnson, Brittany Kincaid, Matthew Fitch, Natali Goertzen, Ashley Rowan and Anthony Werner.  Varsity members this year are Laramie Greene, Cameron Moore, T.J. Prince and Krista Neifert.

Junior high scholar’s bowl meets will begin on February 22nd with the Argonia Invitational on March 22nd.
