November 9, 2009
Call to Order: President Rick Nafziger called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. with seven members present. Those members present were Rick Nafziger, Sarah Vineyard, Randy Simon, Ron Work, Robert Pike, Scott Greenwood, and Joe Allen. Also present were High School Principal Travis Riebel, Elementary Principal Dennis Murray, Superintendent Dr. Julie Dolley, and Clerk Linda White.
There was no audience present.
Approve Agenda: A motion was made by Scott Greenwood, seconded by Randy Simon to approve the agenda as amended. Motion carried 7-0.
Approve Minutes: Motion by Joe Allen and seconded by Sarah Vineyard, to approve the Minutes of October 12th, 2009 as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
Approve Warrants: Motion by Joe Allen and seconded by Ron Work to approve paying of the warrants as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
Elementary Principal: Elementary Principal Dennis Murray advised the board of some activities held at the elementary school including the successful Health Fair held in October, Red Ribbon Week with all elementary students having a pizza party to be held November 23, the Veterans Day program to be held November 11th, and the Thanksgiving Break beginning November 25th.
HS Principal: High School Principal Travis Riebel reported to the board on the rate of student absenteeism, the JH Lady Raiders were SCBL runners-up, the HS Lady Raiders were Regional Runner-up and Sub State runner-up, and SCBL League First Team Honors to Ali Brewster and Davi Peetoom, and the Second Team Honors to Brook Boatright.
Sumner County Interlocal 619: Rick Nafziger gave the report of the meeting held at the #619 office in Wellington on October 26th.
SCKESC: Joe Allen reported on the meeting held in Clearwater on November 4th.
Superintendent: Superintendent Julie Dolley reminded the board of the KASB Convention in Overland Park December 4-6th, the SQE Breakfast reservation due Monday November 30th, the Cafeteria Steam table, and the memorials from Scott Harrill and Dale Delozier.
Discussion and/or Appropriate Action
2009 AYP/Standard of Excellence: Discussion. A Governor’s Achievement Award for Argonia Elementary School was presented to Mr. Murray.
Student Absenteeism: Tabled until next month.
State Budget Update: Discussion.
Board Policy Update: Motion by Scott Greenwood and seconded by Rick Nafziger to remove board policy KF-Complaints from the board policy handbook. Motion carried 7-0.
BOE Meeting Times: Motion by Scott Greenwood and seconded by Joe Allen to change the meeting times of the board meetings to coincide with daylight savings time. Meetings will begin at 8:00 p.m. when on daylight savings time and meetings will begin at 7:00 p.m. when on regular time. Motion carried 7-0.
Classified Contract: Motion by Sarah Vineyard and seconded by Ron Work to approve the contract of Kathy Brundage as server/sub-cook. Motion carried 7-0.
Adjournment: Motion by Ron Work and seconded by Scott Greenwood to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 p.m. Motion carried 7-0.
