Elementary

Fifth Grade Auction

by Kiley Davis

January 18, 2010

Just before Christmas break the Argonia Elementary Fifth Graders had some excitement in the classroom.  The entire second nine weeks the students were working to earn money for their grades.  Well not real money, but fake money to go toward a classroom auction.  Each assignment that the students did earned them money.  An A+ was worth 50 cents, an A was 25 cents, a B was 10 cents, a C was worth 5 cents, a D was 1 cent, and an F was worth nothing.  The fifth graders had to keep track of their own money in a bank book.  Each day they were given their past assignments, they had to add them into their bank book, and then the teacher double checked their book once they were done.
The auction took place the day before Christmas break.  Most of the auction items were graciously donated by teachers and staff at the school.  Once the bank books were turned in, the students were given their fake money to spend at the auction.  The auction began and the students started their bidding.  There were many hot items that the students were trying to out bid each other on and there were also a few high dollar items.  The students did a great job managing their money and came away from the auction with many treasures!
