Fourth Grade Scientists

Before Christmas break the Argonia 4th graders did an experiment where they began to understand density of liquids. This experiment helped introduce our chapter about properties of matter. We will be learning about the properties of matter by focusing on the three states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. We will look at how we can make physical and chemical changes to these states of matter by applying heat energy or removing heat energy. We will also look at a few other different ways we can make these changes. To help us understand what we are learning about we will do a few more experiments to explore the properties of different matter and how we can make them go through changes. One experiment that seems to be a favorite each year is when we create a chemical change by mixing vinegar and baking soda. They love the changing of the liquid into an exploding fizzy mess! We will also study measuring the mass and volume of matter and continue learning more about density.
