The fourth grade students at Argonia Elementary have been very busy this spring. We have taken our Math and Science state assessments. For Reading we have been focusing on finding the main idea, sequencing events, finding facts, figuring our new vocabulary words from context clues, discussing cause vs. effect, making inferences and drawing conclusions after reading passages. In Math we have been estimating our answers before finding the exact answer, working with two-step story problems, classifying quadrilaterals, and solving problems of place value or fractions. In Writing we hope to become better writers by practicing using “verbs of steel” rather than dull verbs and eliminating unnecessary words in our paragraphs. Our Vocabularies have expanded through discussions of words associated with movement and their meanings. In Science we have learned about magnets, electromagnets and how sound and light travel.
We learned what conjunctions and interjections are in English and also practiced classifying all the parts of speech in sentences. Learning the U.S. states and capitals are challenging us now in Social Studies and in Spelling we are busy learning the correct spelling of new words every week.
