Second graders perform their play, "The Little Pollinators."

Argonia Second Graders Buzzing for Spring

by Cathleen Balman

April 14, 2008

Argonia Elementary second graders attempted to bring on spring in their play, "The Little Pollinators," which they performed in March. The play focused on flowery blooms of spring and all of the creatures who enjoy their nectar.

The class put on two performances of their play just before Spring Break. It featured butterflies, hummingbirds and many other pollen lovers. The play explained the difference in how honeybees and bumblebees collect pollen, and introduced some not-so-well-known pollinators, like bats. Audience members learned that bats and moths do their pollen hunting at night, and that bees and butterflies prefer certain colors of flowers when they search for nectar.

Many parents and other classes attending the performances. The 12 students had been practicing their play for about a month.
