General Information:
KSU Senior Days are on Monday, February 11, 2008 and Monday, February 18, 2008
I have new information on the John Deere Tech Program at Fort Scott Community College if interested. There is an open house on Friday, February 15, 2008.
Hutchinson Community College is having their 2nd annual HCC 9-1-1 Day for people who might me interested in a 911 area. The event will be held on March 3, 2008 from 9-noon or 1-4pm. A free BBQ is planned for pre-registered individuals. Please register by February 25, 2008 at 800-289-3501 ext. 4401 or 4410 or e-mail mailto:jensena@hutchcc.edu.
NEW THIS YEAR ON FAFSA FORMS: The school or counselor will no longer receive FAFSA forms by mail for the students to fill out. The students/parents must apply for pin numbers and order up to three forms online. The preferred method is to fill out the forms online. Details will be covered at the Financial Aid Night. Students may call and receive up to 3 copies by mail at 800-433-3243.
Registering with the Selective Service: Male students who are within 30 days of their 18th birthday MUST register with the selective service. You may go to http://www.sss.gov or your local post office to register. Within 90 days of registering you should get a card of proof. If you don�t receive one, go to local post office or counselor for address and phone number of who to contact. If you don't register, you are breaking the law and can do 5 years prison time and fined up to $250,000.00. You also can�t get any financial aid for college.
NEW this year: Students may register early at the age of 17.
College Goal Sunday-February 10, 2008 from 2:00-4:00 at several locations. Wichita has 2 locations. From 2:00-4:00 pm, Financial Aid Counselors will be available to help you apply for a Department of Education PIN and/or complete your 2007-2008 Free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). State and Local Scholarships:
Sumner-Cowley Electric Coop., Inc. Scholarships (1 $1500 & 1 $1,000) . Please fill out ASAP if your parents have this electric company. Deadline is Jan. 31, 2008. Must write a 600 word essay and fill out the application.
Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (KACRAO) is offering their Quality Leadership Scholarship. There are 2 available for $500.00 each. The following are requirements: Be a senior going to attend a KACRAO institution (counselor has list), have a 3.25GPA, 22ACT, and show leadership experience. The application must be postmarked by February 15, 2008.
Kanokla Telephone Association (For those who have Kanokla Telephone Service) is offering 8 $1,000.00 scholarships, 4 in KS and 4 in OK. See counselor for application if you are a member. The deadline is April 1, 2008.
PRIMO (Public Relations Independent Marketing Organization) is offering 3 scholarships for $500.00. Preference will be to those students majoring in Marketing, Public Relations, or any telecommunications fields. Kanokla is an active member of PRIMO and scholarships must be turned in to the Kanokla Telephone Association Office in Caldwell. Applications are due by March 15, 2008.
Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) (Both Kanokla and Haviland Telephone Company are members of the FRS. If a student from the service areas are selected to receive one of the 25 national scholarships ($2,000 each), then the FRS will contribute an additional $500.00. See counselor for application Preference will be given to individuals expressing an interest to return to a rural area to work following graduation. FRS scholarship applications should be sent directly to FRS, postmarked no later than March 1, 2008.
Family and Community Education (FCE) (groups in Sumner County) 1 $300.00 scholarship available. See application or go to www.oznet.ksu.edu/sumner under events and forms. Deadline is April 1, 2008
Kansas Association of Directors of Plant Facilities: Dave Williams and Dick Merriman Scholarship.1 $250.00, 1 $500.00 and 1 $1,000.00 scholarship available. This scholarship is only available to graduating seniors who have a parent who works as a custodian. Must be a Kansas student attending a Kansas college. See counselor for applications. Deadline is February 22, 2008.
KS Society of Certified Public Accountants, Inc. is awarding a total of $6,800 in scholarships. 1 each of $1300, $900, $800, $700, $600, and 5 each for $500. Must attend a KS university, major in accounting, and rank high in the ACT. Must have counselor send in test scores by March 3, 2008 and then they will send a questionnaire/short essay form which will be due by April 14, 2008.
Kansas Environment Health Association: Bill Spaniol Memorial Scholarship. Go to www.e-keha.org for the information sheet and application. The information sheet, personal inventory form, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and letter of intent must all be included before applications will be reviewed. The deadline is May 31, 2008. Financial Aid Sources for Kansas Students Application Form. See application for details. Students must be a designated state scholar for the KS State Scholarship. The others available students must not be a state scholar. There is a $10.00 application fee. Deadline is May 1, 2008.
Other Scholarships:
Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program- 100 $1500.00 scholarships will be available. Please go to http://www.monsanto.com or http://www.ffa.org to get application. You must not be an FFA member to apply. Applications are due by February 15, 2008.
Best Buy Scholarships-Good Grades and outstanding community service. For more information and application, go to http://www.bestbuy.com/scholarships. Deadline is February 15, 2008.
America's Milk Processors ("Got Milk" & "Milk Mustache") and USA Today: "Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) 2006 Award Program. 25 winners will receive $7500 college Scholarship, Invitation for winners and parents to attend a SAMMY 07weekend at the Disney World Complex in Orlando (In June) and an opportunity to be pictured in a Milk Mustache Ad. The Conclave- 3 Radio/Music Industry Scholarships Available for a combined total of over $65,000 (also money for a school). Must provide a voice cassette tape/CD with the application. Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity- 2 $500.00 scholarships available for the Loren Mall Leadership Scholarships. May get application from counselor or go to http://www.ksu.edu/deltasig for an application.
Acacia- 1 leadership scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and 2 for $500.00 to incoming Freshmen.
Deadline is February 1, 2008.
Sigma Phi Epsilon Balanced Man Scholarship- 1 $1,000., 1$500.00, & 2 $250.00 scholarships available. See counselor for an application.
Ottawa University: Full tuition scholarship available based on ACT, GPA, and class rank. Must be nominated by school counselor by Feb. 4th and the deadline is February 11, 2008. See me ASAP if interested.
