Dan Flores, 5-12 Band

Dan Flores, trumpet, graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor's degree in music performance in 2003 and is pursuing his master's degree in music performance. He also pursued graduate studies at Roosevelt University's College of Performing Arts, Northeastern Illinois University, and at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dan was a member of Hutchinson Community College's Jazz Ensemble Number One under the direction of Bryce Luty. In that group, Dan performed with some of jazz's top artists, including Jon Faddis, Byron Stripling, and Bobby Shew and opened for the Count Basie Orchestra and Thad Jones Orchestra. Dan won second place in the Kansas State University Jazz Festival in 1998, winning a summer scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.

Dan's most recent professional experience was performing with some of the top freelance orchestras and brass bands across the greater Chicago area, including the Chicago Reading Orchestra, the Northwest Festival Orchestra, the Northwest Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Prairie Brass Band. He has performed orchestral music along-side members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Ravinia Festival Orchestra, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Dan is also an active solo and chamber artist. Dan is a current member of the Chicago Federation of Musicians.

Teachers include William Scarlett of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philip Smith of the New York Philharmonic, and Bette Eilers, a pioneer of the International Women's Brass Conference.
