Red Cap by G. Clifton Wisler
In 1862 at the age of 13, Ransom J. Powell left his home in West Virginia. He left behind his family to join the Union Army to fight in the Civil War as a Drummer. In 1864 he was captured and brought to Camp Sumter, a confederate prison in Adersonville, Georgia. Ransom Powell or “Red Cap” (nicknamed by his fellow soldiers) refused to join the rebels, which would have released him from the horrible stockade. Does he get out? Does he live? Read the book and follow the exciting adventures of Red Cap. This is a great book for a person who likes to hear war stories. Not only is it a great book, it has a lot of information, and is based on a true story.
