Cowley County Community College Concurrent Requirements

by Diane Bacon

March 09, 2006

Students who wish to take college classes through Cowley County Community College must follow certain requirements in order to do so. They must be seniors, juniors, or gifted sophomores and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a four point scale (unweighted).

The students must also meet assessment guidelines for all courses. The students must either pass the Asset or Compass Tests or score a certain score on the ACT exam, in the areas of Reading, English, and Math. In Argonia, a Cowley College Testing Representative will come and test our students one time. If students don't pass, he or she may have an option of going to the college campus at their own expense and take the Compass Test or the Asset again. They may only retake it one time for that school year.

On the ACT, the students must get a Reading score of 18 to take Psychology, Sociology, Composition I & II (Honors English). The students must score a 20 on the ACT for Comp I & II. For college math classes, the ACT score must be 21 for College Algebra, 23 for College Trigonometry, 25 for College Calculus, and have completed Algebra II.

Beginning August of 2006, students may only transfer 24 credit hours to any Kansas college.

The assessment process must be completed at least two weeks prior to the official start of the Cowley College Semester for all concurrent high school students. For other class listings or requirements, please contact Cowley College Admissions or call the high school counselor for details.
